Whilst (Isn’t that a fun word! I’m feeling all whimsical) wandering through the fabric store I found this beautiful lavender-colored yarn. I just wanted longed desperately needed had to buy it ( I am a yarnaholic you know), after all it was on sale (oh the things we tell ourselves to enable our addictions!). It’s also SUPER DUPER soft, and made of bamboo (Yay! Go environment, go!).

That was two months ago.

This beautiful yarn has sat in my yarn tub (oh yes, a tub, I do have that much–you can ask my Hunk how much the yarn craze drives him bonkers, he won’t hold back. He loves me that much) waiting for me to decide what to use it for.

Well, I’ve finally found the perfect project. I’m not going to tell you what it is. However, you can guess as I go along and then see how cute it is at the end (sneaky, but fun– I hope!)

You’re one hint (besides the picture, duh): It’s for my beautiful little Red-Haired Girl who looks amazing in lavender!

Week One

Week One

P.S. I couldn’t get my camera to get the color right. I don’t know what it’s problem was (darn electronics!), I was using natural lighting and everything! Trust me it’s a beautiful, no-mistaking-it lavender. Not blue.

and P.P.S. I know I said this is week one but I actually just started it yesterday, but whatever. I’ll have a whole lot more to show next week!

Stay tuned next week for a little bit more!

I’m never going to survive unless I get a little crazy February 27, 2009

I’m a knitter, if you didn’t know.

I LOVE to knit, like I love to eat cookies. It’s very relaxing–the knitting that is. And it doesn’t make me fat like eating cookies does.

Right now I am knitting the Blue-Eyed Boy a sweater vest for Easter. I even let him pick the colors (what a crazy nice mommy!). He actually picked really nice complimentary colors (blue and bright green). The pattern is from 1950. My Great Grandmother bought the book for 75 cents way back when. When she passed my mom was given all of her knitting stuff because she had taught my mom how to knit (although I don’t think my mom remembers anymore) and no one else in the family knew how. When I taught myself how to knit my mom passed it all on to me. I have some really great books on argyle socks and such. I think the newest book I have was from the 70s (she died in the 80s just before I was born). I wish I could have known her. Anyways..moving on.

I really enjoy watching it come together. I am currently almost finished with the back side.  It’s full of cables and ribbing which keeps me on my toes (or fingers?), but makes it really interesting.

Here’s what it looks like so far:

The back

The back

Pretty spiffey huh? Well, I think so at least!

Now I don’t know if you all have noticed but for the last..umm….9 posts (including this one) I have been using song lyrics or movie quotes as the titles of my posts.

What in tarnation would posses me to do that?!? You might possibly be asking yourself (although not in such a strange way, I’m sure, unless you talk funny like me). Well, I’m going to tell you.

It’s Giveaway time!!!!! (Are you excited? Well you should be!)

One lucky winner will receive a hand-knit custom sweater vest for their little girl or boy. The only stipulation to this is that it will take me at least a month to make it, so sorry but good things come to those who wait! I’m going to leave this giveaway open for quite awhile so that I can finish the Blue-Eyed Boys vest and you all can see how it looks (and decide if you actually would want your kid to be seen in one!) And because I want to get more than just the 8 faithful readers to enter (I love you all–you know it). The other stipulation is that the winner give me some constructive criticism and feedback on it. I am thinking of adding these to my store and you (the lucky winner) get to be my guinea-pig (are you feeling special? I hope so!). Don’t worry I’ll just email you some questions to answer after you have received it, it’s easy as eating a pie…..or a cookie.

So, here are the rules:

Who can enter: Anyone

How to enter: Go look at the past 9 posts (including this one) and tell me the name of the song/artist or movie/actor(ress) that each quote is from. To make it easy I will link to all the posts at the bottom. For every quote you get right you will get an entry.

When can you enter: The giveaway begins today February 27th and ends March 31st.

What you will win: One hand-knit sweater vest in the color(s) (up to two colors) and size (children sizing only please) of your choice!

Here are the posts:

Five P.S.I’ve protected this one because I don’t want my almost in the buff baby all over the Internet (there are pervs you know), but you can still see the Title.

Happy guessing! and good luck!

It’s that time of year…. February 25, 2009

Filed under: Crazy Things I Do For Love,It's All About Me — Jess @ 2:40 pm

Lent. The time when we prepare ourselves for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Because of this people typically give up something that is distracting them from their relationship with Him.

So we are giving up the thing we spend our evenings doing.

There will be no more T.V. in our house.

For 40 days (not counting Sundays). 46 days of giving up.

And strangely enough I’m looking forward to it. Now my Hunk and I will have to spend our evenings talking with each other rather than staring at a little flashing box.

What a wonderful thing that will be.

Christmas Cards December 15, 2008

So remember how I took all that time to take pictures of my kids for our Christmas cards?

Well, in a sad turn of events we decided that we didn’t have enough extra money to purchase and send Christmas cards. I was bummed to say the least. All that work! gone to waste. bah humbug.

Then in a wonderful turn of events we received some extra money (can we say bonus check?) that we weren’t expecting. So, I went on and made a Christmas card (praise the Lord for one hour printing!!).

So here are my beautiful children as they will appear on our Christmas cards. (I’m mailing them tomorrow so my dear family and friends who read…you’ll be getting them soon!). The cards turned out really lovely, except for one thing. The Red-Haired Girl’s picture is a little on the dark side. It doesn’t look dark on our computer, nor did it look dark on the website, but when printed–it’s a little dark (sorry sounding redundant now). I lightened it up to show you here. It doens’t look bad on the card, just a little bit darker than the Blue-Eyed Boy’s picture.

(I would just scan the card, but I’m not sure how the copyright stuff works, and since they almost wouldn’t give the cards to us, I think I’ll just show you the pictures).

I think he’s going to be just as much of a hunk as his daddy, don’t you?

And here’s our beautiful sunny girl:

and to see the card layout I picked, go here.

5 photo shoots, 6 tantrums, 15 clothing changes and 237 Pictures later…. November 22, 2008

and we finally have our Christmas card pictures.

Whew. It was fun, but man oh man. To get them both together without one wiggling or crying or puking or……tricky, folks, tricky. Oh and not to mention when the camera wouldn’t work or was too slow or you know just all around stinkeriffic (new word meaning: terrifically stinky). I need a new camera and possibly a vacation.

But I’m done! I did it! I persevered!

I think. I might take a few more just because I like to torture myself–er take pictures of my beautiful children.

I’m not going to share them with you just yet (don’t want to ruin the surprise for all the family and friends that read!). You can see a couple of the good “rejects” on the sidebar. And if you can’t imagine anything cuter than that, oh just you wait!

Now to decide which company to go with for the card. This has been really tough. So far I’m a big fan of Tiny Prints and Pear Tree Greetings. They have wonderful cards and reasonably priced as well. Pear Tree has a create your own photo card option that is really nice and I am spending too much time on the computer fiddling with!

Other places I’ve been looking include:

Snapfish they are having a 20 cards for 20 cents promo
Vista Print
Photocard Designs
Doodlebug designs I absolutely LOVE this feature.
Photoworks This is such a neat idea!
Photo Affections

Anyone else a d0-it-yourself Christmas photographer?

It only took a YEAR (almost)! September 29, 2008

Filed under: Crazy Things I Do For Love — Jess @ 2:44 pm

Today we got a knock at the door. I wasn’t even dressed yet (it was 10am….I was being is Monday after all!). I open the door and it’s my mailman. He says, “I have a certified letter here for you, you need to sign here and here.” I’m like okay. Look at the letter it’s from Brandorama. I’m thinking what in the heck, I don’t know who that is or what this is. Mailman leaves. I open the letter and here’s what I see inside:

Yep you read that right…250 dollars.

Now you’re wondering why in the world I got this in the mail? Well I’ll tell you.

About a year ago…when I found out I was pregnant with our Red-Haired Girl I did one of those online things where you try out some products and for doing this they send you a gift card in the ammount of $250 for the store of your choice (they had a selection). Now normally I wouldn’t do something like this because you usually spend more trying out the products than the reward is worth. But this one wasn’t like that. I spent about 20 dollars trying out some things…mostly mineral make-up and such.

So, I completed my requirements and they said I should get my gift card in 6-8 WEEKS. Well, that was October LAST YEAR, folks. If I had known it was going to take A YEAR I would have gotten the gift card for a differnt store. But at the time I needed maternity clothes. The good news is I can use it online at the Motherhood Nursing store online and gets some nice looking nursing wear to make that easier! And as long as it is not left unused for 24 consecutive months it won’t be charged a 2.00 fee. So, I can hold on to it for awhile.

So all in all even though it took forever to get here I am super excited I got it!

Shopping anyone?

The 100 Push-up Challenge Week 1 August 18, 2008

Filed under: Crazy Things I Do For Love,Push-up Challenge — Jess @ 2:09 am

Tomorrow we start week two of the 100 push-up challenge. Week one was not as hard as I thought it would be. Last night I did my third workout and during the 5th rep I did 20 push-ups (go me!). I am still doing my “girly” push-ups. The handsome hunk did 22 push-ups during the 5th rep. He does the regular ones, but he doesn’t touch his nose to the floor…I don’t think he’s there yet.

After next week we do another “test”, to see how many we can do. I will let you know next Sunday how we did!

Head on over to Kat’s Blog to see others who are doing this challenge.

Here’s my shout out to those who I know are doing this:
